To prepare for a brow lift, Dr. Schwartz will thoroughly explain what you can expect from the procedure during your initial consultation. During that time, he will carefully evaluate your unique needs and make recommendations to ensure an optimal outcome.

To begin your surgery, one of our board certified anesthesiologists will administer general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety. Today, most brow lifts are done through a limited or temporal incision. These are small incisions near or in the hairline that are well hidden and allow excellent movement of the outer third of the eyebrow. This is the key area to create a more youthful, elegant appearance.

If the glabella or corrugator muscles need to be treated (the muscles treated by BOTOX), these can be done through a separate hidden incision in the upper eyelid crease. This more limited approach allows improvement without long scars or distortion of the hairline.

Some patients may still require a more traditional or endoscopic approach to get their brow where it needs to be. This approach entails a more extensive incision to lift the brow. Dr. Schwartz will work with you to decide which one is best for you.

Regardless of the surgical approach used, Dr. Schwartz will take special care to ensure that all of your incisions are placed in such a way so that the resulting scars are virtually imperceptible. Once your forehead has been elevated and your youthful new appearance achieved, he will expertly close the incisions to minimize any scarring and ensure an optimal healing process.

What to expect during recovery

As a brow lift is a significant procedure, you can expect a more substantial recovery period. During this time, it’s normal to experience swelling, pain and bruising in the area – all of which can be managed with the pain medication prescribed by Dr. Schwartz. As you heal, you’ll be advised to elevate your head at all times, ice the area to reduce swelling and avoid strenuous physical activity to ensure an optimal outcome. Most individuals are able to resume their normal daily activities within one to two weeks.
