What are MINT PDO threads?
PDO is a short form of the word, “polydioxanone.” Polydioxanone is an absorbable, complex sugar polymer that is flexible and durable. PDO threads are safe, dissolvable sutures that are inserted under the skin and into the facial tissues to lift sagging skin and achieve a firmer, more youthful look.
MINT stands for Minimally Invasive Non-surgical Thread. MINT PDO threads have been used successfully in orthopedic and cardiovascular surgeries for over 30 years. MINT PDO threads are a superior PDO thread because MINT PDO threads are stronger and can lift more successfully. MINT PDO threads have patented, molded barbs that retain their anchoring strength on the underlying facial tissue, providing a longer-lasting result.
Because MINT PDO threads have a stronger lifting power compared to other PDO threads, they can most effectively provide a nonsurgical facelift and restore a more youthful facial V shape.
How does a MINT PDO thread lift work?
Before your MINT PDO thread lift treatment, we will mark your skin in the places the threads will be inserted. You will receive a local anesthetic to numb the area.
Once the anesthetic has taken effect, we will carefully and precisely insert the MINT PDO threads with a long cannula (a blunt-tipped needle). The cannula will be moved through the tissue beneath the skin, lifting and firming the tissues, until the thread has reached its final position.
Once the thread is properly inserted, the cannula will be removed, but the thread will remain in place, holding the tissues of your skin tightly in place. The thread will then be massaged to ensure the tissue is smooth around the thread. We will use a number of threads in different areas of your face. These threads act as anchors to keep the skin lifted upward.
The procedure takes only about an hour, and there is no downtime necessary.
What results and recovery time can I expect from a PDO thread lift?
The mechanical effect of the MINT PDO thread lift is instantly and dramatically lifted and tightened skin. MINT PDO thread lifts also contract fat tissue and stimulate collagen production to help renew your skin naturally, at the cellular level. You will immediately see fewer lines and wrinkles, firmer, tighter skin, and a generally rejuvenated appearance. But for the longer term, you will notice your skin becoming more youthful-looking as the collagen rebuilds the skin’s basic structure.
Results last for 6-9 months, sometimes up to one year. Patient results may include the following:
- Higher cheekbones
- A more heart- or V-shaped facial appearance
- Lifted eyes
- A defined jawline
- Softer, smoother smile lines
- Reduced neck lines
Treatments involve minimal pain and minimal recovery, and the results can be seen immediately. Keep in mind that the puncture points of the threads will take a few weeks to heal, and you may experience some soreness or redness during that time.
