Your First Consultation

The most important visit with your plastic surgeon besides the surgery itself is your initial consultation. You will be able to discuss your goals, concerns and specific desires. You will discuss the specific details of your surgery including incision location, implant type, and implant position.

You should also be interviewing your prospective surgeon. You should feel your surgeon would care for you as if you were part of his own family. That your surgery was the most important, and that you are unique. It may never be truer that you get:

Ultrasound Liposuction

The enlarged breast tissue in a man is usually quite firm. Using ultrasound liposuction to break down the tissue often allows treatment of this condition with liposuction alone. This allows for a short recovery with minimal, hidden incisions.

Surgical Excision

In some patients, liposuction alone can not remove all the abnormal tissue. In these patients, a small incision can be made along the bottom of the areola to remove the abnormal breast tissue directly. This leaves an excellent scar which is well concealed by the skin color change at the nipple edge.

Gynecomastia Recovery

Liposuction alone usually requires 1-2 hours of surgery as an outpatient. You will be seen the second or third day after surgery, and can usually shower at that time. Many patients will only require Motrin or Advil for pain control, but stronger medications are available if needed.

Most sutures are absorbable, and patients can usually drive and return to work by their one week appointment or even sooner.
Exercise can resume as soon as desired after surgery without restrictions in most patients.

When excision is also required, the restrictions after surgery as somewhat stricter requiring 2-3 weeks prior to resuming all normal activities and exercise.

Gynecomastia Risks

While every procedure has risks, it is Dr. Schwartz goal to minimize every possibility of this during your care. You will receive extensive consultation regarding your surgery and any risks during your consultation and pre-op appointments.
