Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery is one of the most dramatic areas in facial surgery. Many patients who are not ready for more aggressive facial surgery can have a significant improvement treating the eyelids alone. This is often an excellent early procedure to provide a more youthful appearance with little downtime.

Your First Consultation

Blepharoplasty Procedure

Eyelid surgery is designed to treat extra skin of the upper and lower eyelids, and in some patients remove bulging fat from the eyelids as well. It can be combined with laser treatment of the eyelid skin to tighten the area without incisions. Upper eyelids can be treated with local anesthesia alone in the office setting. Lower eyelids are most often treated in the operating room for both safety and patient comfort.

Blepharoplasty Recovery

Eyelid sutures are usually in place for 5 days. After the sutures are removed, patients are required to wait 1-2 more days before using any makeup. Most patients can be at work or social activities within 7-10 days.

SURGERY LOCATION – Your surgery will be performed at our new AAAASF accredited Westlake Cosmetic Surgery Center facility. This state of the art surgical center provides the highest standard of care, safety and privacy. Dr. Schwartz also has privileges to perform procedures at Los Robles Regional Medical center, Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital, and both St. Johns Regional Medical center, and Pleasant Valley Hospitals.

ANESTHESIA – Blepharoplasty is performed with either local or general anesthesia. If you are only having your upper eyelids treated, this can often be done in the office with local anesthesia. We frequently give an oral medication as well to help relax you. If you are having lower eyelids treated, or just request more sedation, this will be done in our surgery center. Dr. Schwartz only works with Board Certified Physician (M.D.) anesthesiologists who are always present for your entire procedure.

While every procedure has risks, it is Dr. Schwartz goal to minimize every possibility of this during your care. You will receive extensive consultation regarding your surgery and any risks during your consultation and pre-op appointments.
