Is labiaplasty right for you?
There are a variety of reasons you may want to undergo among the best labiaplasty Calabasas has to offer with Dr. Schwartz. In general, women seek out this procedure because they:
- Possess enlarged, uneven and/or unattractive labia due to hormonal changes, congenital factors or pregnancy.
- Experience discomfort during sex and physical activity, and while wearing clothing, due to the size of their labia.
- Experience embarrassment and emotional distress due to their condition.
An overview of labiaplasty
To prepare for your Thousand Oaks labiaplasty procedure, Dr. Schwartz will thoroughly explain what you can expect from the procedure during your initial consultation. During that time, he will carefully evaluate your unique needs and make recommendations to ensure an optimal outcome.
While labiaplasty is considered to be a less invasive procedure, it is still done in our surgery center with sedation from one of our board certified anesthesiologists. To begin the procedure, Dr. Schwartz will administer a long acting local anesthetic to ensure your total comfort during and after the procedure. He will then typically use either “The Wedge” or “The Trim” technique to reduce the size of your labia and improve the overall appearance.
If your labia is asymmetrical, or if you possess a significant amount of excess tissue, Dr. Schwartz will likely use “The Wedge” technique. To begin, he will remove a wedge-shaped area of tissue from the middle third section of your vagina, before suturing the top and bottom sections together. Because this option doesn’t involve altering the edges of the labia, it ensures extremely natural-looking results.
If your labia is uneven or discolored, Dr. Schwartz will likely use “The Trim” technique to remove excess tissue along the edges of the labia, ultimately sculpting a more attractive shape and size.
In addition, these procedures can be combined with either removal of excess fat in the mons or pubic areas, or fat grafting to the labia in cases where the tissue as atrophied or shrunk during pregnancy. This can typically happen with the labia majora or outer lips.
Regardless of the approach used, Dr. Schwartz will take special care to ensure your incisions are hidden within the natural contours of your body, making them virtually imperceptible once the area has fully healed. Once he has succeeded in resizing and reshaping your labia, he will close the incisions using dissolvable sutures.
What to expect during recovery
As labiaplasty is considered to be a minor procedure, the recovery period is fairly quick and easy. After surgery, you’ll be sent home to begin the healing process, which should take around two weeks. During this time, you can expect to experience some pain, swelling, discoloration in the area. All of these side effects are completely normal, and will naturally subside over time.
Throughout your recovery period, you will be advised to avoid alcohol and smoking, and to get plenty of rest. In addition, you’ll need to avoid having sex and swimming for at least six weeks to ensure an optimal healing process. Though most patients can resume their normal daily routine approximately two weeks after surgery, Dr. Schwartz will provide you with more specific guidance during your post-operative appointments.
