Even if you eat a healthy diet and consistently exercise, certain areas of the body won’t respond. If you have loose, sagging skin and fatty deposits on your abdomen, a tummy tuck could be the best option to finally achieve a more attractive, firm, toned abdomen. Once the skin and muscle structure has stretched, it can be impossible to restore with diet and exercise. A tummy tuck procedure can repair these issues completely.

Why a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure which addresses extra skin and fatty deposits in the abdominal region. Also referred to as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck will remove lose sagging skin and allow our board certified plastic surgeon to sculpt and contour a taut, firm, midsection.

During the procedure, an incision is made just above the pubic bone. Loose skin is then pulled taught and excess skin and pockets of fat are removed to restore a youthful, firm abdomen for a more youthful, fit appearance. If the muscles of the abdomen have a split appearance, as often occurs after pregnancy, the muscles are repaired during the procedure.

What are the Benefits of a Tummy Tuck?

In patients who have given birth, or those who have lost an extreme amount of weight, a tummy tuck can provide many benefits that are impossible to achieve with diet and exercise. You may be feeling embarrassed by loose, sagging skin, a separation of the abdominal muscles and excess fat creating bulges on your midsection. Having tummy tuck surgery can restore a flat, taut tummy, give you better posture and restore the muscle structure in the abdominal region.

What is the Difference Between a Mini Tummy Tuck and a Full Tummy Tuck?

The extent of the sagging skin and excess fat deposits will determine if you will need a full tummy tuck, or if a mini tummy tuck will be the appropriate procedure to create a firm, flat tummy. In a full tummy tuck, abdominal muscles both above and below the naval will require tightening. In this surgical procedure, an incision is made just above the pubic bone. Excess skin, fat, and tissue is removed, and the skin tightened both above and below the incision. Once the tissue has been repositioned, your surgeon moves the belly button structure to the appropriate position on your abdomen. Finally, the incision will be closed with sutures.

If a patient has sagging skin below the belly button only, a mini tummy tuck may the best surgical procedure to restore a firm, youthful, toned appearance. A mini tummy tuck is used when the sagging skin and fat appears below the navel. This does not require changing the position of the navel, and will simply remove excess tissue below the incision, sculpting a flat, firm abdomen.
