A Career Defined by Expertise and Service
Most recently, Dr. Nguyen served as Professor of Surgery, Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery, and Associate Vice Chair for Global Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado. His clinical expertise spans rhinoplasty, facial aesthetic surgery, cleft and craniofacial surgery, orthognathic surgery, otoplasty, and facial palsy. He completed general surgery training at NYU, plastic surgery training at UCLA, and a pediatric craniofacial surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, recently voted the world’s #1 children’s hospital. He has also held faculty appointments at the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He has been a committed educator and researcher, training dozens of residents and students and receiving multiple teaching awards as well as having published over 139 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters. He has also been recognized with patient service awards including Top Doctor for Castle Connolly, 5280 magazine, and Houstonia magazine.
Dr. Nguyen’s path to medicine began when he came to the United States as a child refugee. That experience helped shape the perseverance and commitment to service that has guided his career. Beyond the operating room, he is a trained chef having worked in a James Beard award-winning restaurant, and a musician who regularly performs with his band and written multiple albums. His appreciation for artistry is reflected in the care and attention he brings to every patient. After having been recruited to lead programs in many centers around North America, he is excited to return to southern California which he calls home.
