What issues can rhinoplasty correct?
When performed by an expert plastic surgeon like Dr. Schwartz, rhinoplasty can correct a wide range of cosmetic and functional nasal imperfections, including:
- A nose that is too small, large, long or short.
- A nose that is too narrow or wide.
- A nasal tip that is upturned, hooked, drooping or overly large.
- A nasal profile that features visible bumps, humps and/or defects along the bridge.
- Overly large, wide or upturned nostrils.
- An asymmetrical nose.
- Internal structural issues that contribute to breathing difficulties.
An overview of rhinoplasty
To prepare for rhinoplasty, Dr. Schwartz will thoroughly explain what you can expect from the procedure during your initial consultation. During that time, he will carefully evaluate your unique needs and make recommendations to ensure an optimal outcome. Using Mirror™ Imaging Technology, he will also allow you to visualize what your new nose can look like after your procedure.
To begin your actual surgery, one of our board certified anesthesiologists will administer general anesthesia to ensure your total comfort and safety. From there, Dr. Schwartz will make precise incisions along the area of skin in between the nostrils and inside the nose. He will then lift the nasal skin and begin the reshaping process, correcting any structural abnormalities and sculpting the nose to your desired shape and size. Once your ideal nose has been created, Dr. Schwartz will carefully close the incisions to ensure the resulting scars are virtually imperceptible.
What to expect during recovery
As rhinoplasty is a significant procedure, there are important care instructions to follow during your recovery period. During this time, it’s normal to experience swelling, pain and bruising in the area – all of which can be managed with cold compresses and the pain medication prescribed by Dr. Schwartz. As you heal, you will be advised to keep your head elevated to ensure an optimal outcome. Though most individuals are able to resume their normal daily activities within seven to ten days, Dr. Schwartz will offer specific guidance on your recovery period during your post-operative appointments.
Is rhinoplasty right for you?
As Dr. Schwartz believes in truly personalized care, he determines candidacy for all of his procedures on an individual basis. However, in general, most men and women can be considered candidates for rhinoplasty if they are unhappy with the size, shape, appearance and function of their nose.
In addition, candidates for this procedure should be in good overall health and possess realistic expectations for what the procedure can accomplish. When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Schwartz, the procedure won’t significantly alter your facial appearance so that you look like someone else entirely. You’ll still look like you – just with a more proportionate, balanced and attractive nose.
